Role description
Project Name: WWE GIS Transition Project
Project description: The SFPUC Wastewater Enterprise (WWE) is embarking on a project to transition the WWE collection system GIS from the MUNSYS schema hosted at PW Hydraulics to the ESRI Utility Network Schema at SFPUC for continued asset management purposes. This project also includes the transitioning of sewer record drawings currently hosted at PW Hydraulics to SFPUC WWE also for continued asset management purposes. This project is limited to the actual transition of the GIS and record drawings and is not intended to support what will be the newly created PUC WWE GIS Program once the transition is completed. The objective of this project is to ensure a smooth transition from the current GIS/document management system, to the future GIS/document management system. This position will support the project initiatives and upkeep of the GIS under the direction and supervision of WWE’s IS Project Director. It is anticipated that this project will last approximately eighteen (18) months to thirty-six (36) months.
Duties:
- Provide support to ensure a smooth transition of documentation of current system database entities, relationships, and value definitions
- Review and/or update technical documentation and service procedures. Review documentation of current system processes and procedures in workflow diagrams
- Perform data updates to the legacy system at SFPUC based on wastewater construction projects and field data correction requests
- Perform data clean up within the existing system to standards specified by the SFPUC for continued asset management purposes.
- Provide technical guidance related to the legacy system
- Participates and/or lead future system data updates from wastewater construction projects started under the legacy system
- Perform complex technical and operational IT support work and systems administration and/or lead the work of others engaged in routine technical and operational IT support; organize, prioritize and may distribute work assignments; may mentor, train and provide input into evaluation of subordinate staff.
- Install, administer, maintain and upgrade operating systems; install, configure, repair, maintain and upgrade hardware and peripherals; install and enhance applications.
- Monitor, operate and enhance complex computers of distinctive platforms, including mainframe, mid-range servers, and desktop computers, mobile devices, and communications systems, on-site or remote; develop, design and implement problem solutions, using standard analysis techniques; document eventual solutions.
- Provide technical assistance to users; communicate with users and other technical staff to determine and communicate needs; recommend interfaces; assist technical staff in providing estimates; may consult on feasibility, costs and benefits of additions or enhancements
- Class 1093 IT Operations Support Administrator III performs other related duties as required.
How to qualify
Education:
Requires an associate degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in computer science or a closely-related field].
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience performing analysis, installation, and technical support in a network environment.
Substitution:
Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units / forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in computer science or a closely related field.
One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week.) Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience with the MUNSYS framework to manage wastewater GIS systems
- Experience with editing wastewater GIS through AutoCad based on design drawings
- Experience with using NASSCO CCTV condition assessment to correct wastewater GIS
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
