Selection Procedures
Multiple Choice Exam (Weight: 75%)
Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in a written, multiple-choice examination, designed to measure their relative knowledge, skills, and abilities in job-related areas. The multiple-choice examination component may include, but not be limited to:
- Ability to supervise which refers to the ability to plan, schedule, train, assign, motivate, and monitor the activities of subordinate personnel
- Knowledge of safety and security protocols to include the general techniques and practices for public safety and preventing loss or damage to museum exhibits and facilities
- Ability to deal tactfully with the general public and staff by providing customer service
- Ability to prepare concise and accurate written reports
Supervisory Written Examination: (Weight: 25%)
Candidates will be administered a written multiple-choice examination that includes test items that relate to various supervisory practices and procedures (e.g., directing and delegating tasks to subordinates, providing customer service, demonstrating appropriate supervisory/leadership behavior, addressing and/or evaluating subordinate issues, behavior, and performance) as well as reading comprehension items.
This is a standardized examination and, therefore, test questions and test answers are not available for public inspection or review.
The score you achieve on this examination shall be valid and “banked” for three years, starting from the date of the examination. This means that, during this three-year time period, you will not be required to take this test again should you apply and be found eligible for a future announcement for which this particular test is used. If the test for this future announcement is held within one year of the date of this examination, our score will be automatically applied to that announcement. However, after one year, you have the option to either (a) apply your test score to the other announcement or (b) re-take the test. Re-testing is permitted no sooner than one year from the date of the examination and only in association with your eligibility for another announcement for which this test is used. Please note that, should you retest, your re-test score would become your official score since it is the most recent (even if it turns out to be lower than your original score).
If a significant modification is made to this exam in the future, the application of “banked” scores may no longer be appropriate. In such a rare circumstance, candidates with “banked” scores would be required to re-take the exam sooner than the three year period specified above.
Qualified applicants will be notified by email of the exact time, date, and location of the examination.
Note: A passing score must be achieved on all examination components in order to be placed/ranked on the Eligible List.
Candidate scores on this examination may also be applied to other announcements involving other job titles, when directed by the Human Resources Director.
