The San Francisco Department of Public Health is accepting applications for a licensed Physical Therapist position that is limited to a 6-month duration, exempt from Civil Service rules, and located at Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center.

At Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, physical therapists work in the acute rehabilitation, skilled nursing, and long term care settings. Physical therapists provide service for under-served San Francisco individuals, who have neurological impairments, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, orthopedic traumas, and Alzheimer/ dementia. Physical Therapists with an interest in Aquatic Therapy will have the opportunity to participate in evaluation and treatment of both inpatients and outpatients in an aquatic environment as desired. Clinical mentorship is available.
Role description
Duties Include
- Performing physical therapy evaluations
- Administering physical therapy treatment plans
- Communicating with other care team members
- Documenting per regulatory and Practice Act Guidelines
- Overseeing care provided by physical therapy assistants
- Participating in patient care meetings
- Participating in performance improvement projects as assigned
- Explains treatment objectives and methods to patients and their families, including instructing them in the use of prosthetic and orthotic devices and other special equipment and in procedures to be continued at home
- Instructs students-in-training and auxiliary personnel in elementary physical therapy procedures and techniques
- Coordinates patient rehabilitation with physicians, nurses, teachers, occupational therapists, and personnel in other departments
- Other related duties
How to qualify

- Registration as a Physical Therapist licensed by the Physical Therapy Board of California
OR - Possession of an acceptance letter from the Physical Therapy Board of California (PTB) for the next licensing examination
Basic Life Support for Professional Rescuer (BLS) Certificate Requirement/Provision: Possession of a valid Basic Life Support for Professional Rescuer (BLS) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association is required as a provision to employment for all positions. Eligibles who do not possess such a certification may participate in this examination process and be appointed to a position(s), but will be required to obtain the certificate within two (2) weeks of hire date and maintain validity throughout length of employment. A photocopy of the valid Basic Life Support for Professional Rescuer (BLS) Certificate must be provided to the appropriate supervisor of the appointment within the allotted time frame. Failure to demonstrate/show proof of possession of valid certification within two (2) weeks of hire date and throughout length of employment may result in dismissal and/or termination of employment.
