About:
The San Francisco Department of Human Resource's Classification and Compensation Division is accepting applications for a full-time Permanent Exempt position in Class 1280 Classification Analyst.

- Appointment Type: This Permanent Exempt (PEX) position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service Examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer.
The Classification and Compensation Division is responsible for classifying the City’s positions and manages the Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and the Municipal Code related to compensation. In addition, the Classification and Compensation Division supports the Civil Service System through management of classification actions and appeals, labor negotiations through performance of salary surveys, costing, and contract administration, and payroll through establishment and maintenance of rates of pay, premiums and lump sum payments.
Role description
Under supervision, the 1280 Classification Analyst will perform entry-level through journey-level professional analyst work supporting classification management.
Examples of Essential Duties include the following:
- Establishing and amending classifications in accordance with City standards in form and structure;
- Performing classification studies through analysis of job function, organization structure, and recruitment and retention data;
- Conducting salary surveys of surrounding jurisdictions by assessing minimum qualifications, level of responsibility, and scope of work;
- Working with departments to resolve classification related issues;
- Advising departments on appropriate classification utilization; and
- Researching, analyzing, and making policy recommendations related to classification.
How to qualify
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
Education:
Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
Substitution:
Professional personnel experience performing duties equivalent to those of City class 1280 Employee Relations Representative must substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. (One year of experience will be considered equivalent to 30 semester or 45 quarter units of college coursework.) Experience in City classes other than 1280 must be documented in accordance with Civil Service Commission Rule 109 in order to be treated as qualifying.
Desirable Qualification: The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.
- Experience in examinations and hiring
- Experience working in a Civil Service Classification system
- Experience using Microsoft Excel to analyze information and create charts and matrixes
- Experience with database queries
