Role description
Project: Distribution and Transmission pipeline rehabilitation projects
Work location: City Distribution Division, 1990 Newcomb Ave, San Francisco, CA 94124.
Work hours: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm M-F.
This position will report to the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), City Distribution Division (CDD), San Francisco, CA on a full-time basis. The selected candidate will be assigned to various Capital Improvement Pipeline Rehabilitation Projects within the City and County of San Francisco.
Under the general direction of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, CDD: Performs supervision of subordinate Construction Inspectors; Ensures that quality assurance is developed and enforced in construction projects; and Performs highly technical and special inspections for more complex & difficult construction projects managed by the SFPUC CDD. Projects and programs included but not limited to the Lead User Service Line Program (LSLR), Emergency Fire Water System Projects (EFWS), Linear Asset Management Program (LAM), City Distribution Division System (CDD), among others.
Essential Functions:
The duties of the Construction Inspector include but are not limited to the following:
- Supervises and assigns the work of Construction Inspectors in performing general inspections of civil/electrical/mechanical construction activities to ensure conformance with the contract bid documents such as concrete formwork construction, concrete reinforcement placement, trench excavation, pipe placement, back fill placement and compaction, water piping system installations, etc.;
- Initiates, prepares, estimates, reviews and negotiates change orders;
- Resolves disputes & difficult problems, and responds to complaints from the public that requires resolution at the senior level;
- Prepares and maintains project documentation & controls;
- Reviews plans, specs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, constructability reviews and contract close-out records;
- Reports safety and traffic hazards, defective work for correction
- Performs QA/QC for as-builts, chlorination drawings, progress payments, and Change Orders
The 6319 Senior Construction Inspector will perform other related duties as assigned.
Nature of Position: This position will require various field work involving interacting with the public, stakeholders, and Contractors. This position will require oversight of multiple CDD programs, staff, and assignments and the ability to prioritize and manage the various needs for each CDD program.
How to qualify
1. Two (2) years of verifiable full-time experience equivalent to the level of City and County of San Francisco class 6318 Construction Inspector; OR
2. Six (6) years of verifiable full-time experience in construction inspection work insuring that plans and specifications are complied with, and the workmanship and material used meet specifications.
Notes:
- Most positions require a valid California driver’s license.
- May be required to work under extreme weather conditions such as heat or cold, climb ladders, walk on uneven surfaces and/or stand for a long duration.
