The Mission of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is to protect and promote the health of all San Franciscans.
SFDPH strives to achieve its mission through the work of two main Divisions - the San Francisco Health Network and Population Health.
The San Francisco Health Network is the City’s only complete system of care and has locations throughout the City, including Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, and over 15 primary care health centers.

Role description
The 2310 may perform other duties as assigned/required. Positions are located at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, a large acute care teaching hospital which provides a Level I Trauma Center for the City and County of San Francisco and offers a comprehensive range of inpatient, ambulatory, skilled nursing, rehabilitative and community-oriented programs and is affiliated with the University of California - San Francisco. The Department of Public Health serves the culturally diverse,
safety net and underserved population of San Francisco. The hospital is open on a twenty-four
(24) hours, seven (7) days per week basis. The basic work week is forty (40) hours per
week.
The Essential functions of the 2310 Surgical Procedures Technician include:
•Gowns and gloves all members of the surgical team;
• Examines the packaging of all surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment;
• Observes activities of the surgical team to determine that sterile technique is used and
sterile procedure is followed;
• Cleans and decontaminates surgical instruments;
• Assists other operating room staff members;
• Performs patient care activities;
• Checks specialized surgical instrumentation and equipment;
• Promotes efficiency and safe procedures by participating in the orientation and
training of members of the surgical team;
• Adheres to directions and instructions given by supervising operating room
personnel;
• Maintains compliance with all written policies and procedures to disinfect and sterilize
surgical instruments;
• Assembles and tests surgical power equipment;
• Problem solves equipment issues in collaboration with Biomed and manager;
• Coordinates counting of sharps, sponges, and instruments;
• Follows all written policies and procedures for the Hospital Nursing Department and
Operating Room;
• Communicates specific issues and problems, reports unsafe conditions, and provides
written documentation;
• Provides assistance with processing of instruments, set up of case carts, and attends
in-service programs;
• Handles sterile supplies in an appropriate manner;
• Assures safe handling of specimens.
The 2310 Surgical Procedures Technician also performs related duties as required.
How to qualify
EDUCATION:
Possession of a certificate of graduation/diploma from a school of surgical technology accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or equivalent accrediting agency; OR
Completion of comparable surgical technology training in an accredited community college, the military service, or an accredited nursing education program. OR
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of experience performing scrub duties in an acute care hospital providing elective and emergency surgery within the last five (5) years may be substituted for the required education.

One-year fulltime employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine fulltime employment.

Selection Procedures:

Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ)
Applicants may be required to complete a Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ) at any point in the recruitment process. The MQSQ will be emailed to the address listed on the applicant’s online job application. Applicants must complete and submit the MQSQ as directed in the time frame indicated to continue in the recruitment process. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications for this position. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.

Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in 2310 exam that is designed to measure the knowledge, skills, and abilities in job related areas which may include but not be limited to:
This 2310 assessment will require verbal responses. Your responses will be recorded and rated by assessors.
Candidates must achieve a passing score on the 2310 exam in order to continue in the selection process and will be placed on the confidential eligible list in rank order according to their final score.
Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.
What else should I know?
The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be the Rule of Ten Scores.
Eligible List/Score Report:
A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores, and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible lists, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available to public inspection, upon request, once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this civil service examination process is subject to change after adoption (e.g. as a result of appeals), as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.
The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be 6 months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
