Public Works currently has a vacancy for the position of Project Manager III (5506) within our Building Design & Construction/Project Management Division.

The Building Design and Construction Division

The Building Design and Construction Division of San Francisco Public Works, led by the City Architect, provides architectural and landscape design services, comprehensive building planning, project and construction management, contract support and compliance monitoring, materials testing, and hazardous materials investigation for the development of new – and the upgrading of existing ¬– civic buildings, facilities, and urban landscapes to create a more resilient city.

 

Role description

As a Project Manager, you will oversee specific aspects of various projects, such as the 911 Call Center, Facilities Renewal Program, Trash Can Redesign, and Laguna Honda Hospital. You will coordinate with other stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of each project phase within the budget and timeline.

Important and Essential Duties:

As a Project Manager III, your duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Planning, organizing, and directing all phases of the project including but not limited to:
    • Assembling design teams
    • Executing solicitations for professional services and construction contracts
    • Selecting project delivery methods
    • Managing the design phase including design coordination meetings and facilitation of issue resolution in support of the project objectives
    • Facilitating the regulatory approval process
  • Responsible for monitoring the project budget, funding, schedule, design, planning activities, and change orders.
  • Coordinating work of a multi-disciplinary technical staff across organizational boundaries
  • Supervising and managing construction management professionals to ensure the product complies with the contract for construction, codes, and CCSF Standards.
  • Communicate and work extensively with the public, private contractors, special interest groups, governmental funding and regulatory agencies, and City and County departments.  Serve as a primary contact for all parties involved in the project. 
  • Conduct onsite visits to job and meeting locations.

 

How to qualify

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education, training, and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain this would be:

1.Bachelor's Degree in architecture, engineering, or planning plus eight (8) years of responsible architectural, engineering or construction management experience,

OR

2. Bachelor's Degree in another field plus ten (10) years of responsible experience in a field directly related to the project, 

OR

3. Twelve (12) years of architectural, engineering, or construction management experience in a field directly related to the project, 

OR

4. Valid California registration as a professional engineer or architect, plus four (4) years of project coordination experience for major architectural, engineering or construction projects 

Notes:

  • One-year full-time employment is considered equivalent to 2000 hours (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.
