Under general direction, the Recruitment and Retention Data Analyst will plan, organize, lead and/or participate in complex, sensitive, and detailed analytical work relating to recruitment, retention, and other staffing and human resources related data. The analyst will leverage analytic and technical skills to innovate, build, and maintain solutions to address these areas.
- Develop and implement data collection and reporting procedures regarding recruitment and retention activities.
- Conduct data analysis and data visualization activities; develop dashboards and presentations using data visualization software (PowerBI or Tableau) to understand employment trends.
- Use a variety of data analysis tools (e.g., queries, exports, pivot tables, definitions, visualizations, and data quality assessments) to understand SFPD employment data.
- Analyze existing and proposed administrative policies and procedures as well as organizational problems.
- Prepare and present reports, dashboards, and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Research best practices and make recommendations.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
How to qualify
1. Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
2. Experience: Three (3) years full-time equivalent experience performing professional-level analytical work. Qualifying professional-level analytical work includes analysis, development, administration, and reporting in major programs and functions of an organization in the areas of budgets, contracts, grants, policy, or other functional areas related to the duties of positions in the 182X Class series.
Substitution: Possession of a graduate degree (Master's degree or higher) from an accredited college or university with major coursework in specialized subject matter areas such as public or business administration, management, business law, contract law, public policy, urban studies, economics, statistical analysis, finance, accounting or other fields of study closely related to the essential functions of positions in the Class series may be substituted for one (1) year of required experience.
Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of 2 years). Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units equal one year.
One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week.) Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

Background Investigation: Prior to employment with the San Francisco Police Department, a thorough background investigation will be conducted to determine the candidate’s suitability for employment. The investigation may include, but not be limited to: criminal history records, driving records, drug/alcohol screening, and other related employment and personal history records. Reasons for rejection may include use of controlled substances and alcohol, felony conviction, repeated or serious violations of the law, inability to work with co-workers, inability to accept supervision, inability to follow rules and regulations or other relevant factors. Candidates may be required to undergo drug/alcohol screening, and must clear Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprinting. Criminal records will be carefully reviewed; candidates who do not report their complete criminal records on their applications will be disqualified. Applicants will be fingerprinted.
