Special Project: Eleanor Dam Bridge Rehabilitation
Position Summary
Specialty - Civil
Under general direction from the Civil Design Section Manager and other 5211 Senior Engineer(s) with the Civil Design Section, serves as Project Engineer and design engineer who performs difficult and responsible profession civil engineering work related to water and power facilities, including conducting engineering studies and preparing reports, designs, calculations, cost estimates, drawings and specifications; directs technical activities of and manages other engineers, consultants and others engaged in engineering projects for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission in connection with the planning, design, construction and start-up of systems and facilities related to water supply & treatment engineering and power delivery, including but not limited to dams, pump stations, large water delivery tunnels and pipelines, treatment and power facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The position is essential to the Hetch Hetchy operating division’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP), and the person in this position will serve as a project engineer for the CIP, providing project engineering and design work, handling an important role in overall project delivery, and providing design support during construction and closeout phases of the projects. The person will be stationed in San Francisco and supervises direct subordinates (such as 5207 Associate, 5203 Assistant, and 5201 Junior Engineer) and indirect staff (Consultants) at multiple locations. Frequent and regular (expect at least 1 to 4 times a month) travel to and from the San Francisco office to Moccasin office will be required. Other projects may be assigned from other operating divisions such as Water Supply & Treatment Division, City Distribution Division, Wastewater Enterprise and the Hetch Hetchy Power Enterprise. Performs other duties as required.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm
Work Location: 525 Golden Gate Avenue 12th Floor, San Francisco CA 94102 for minimum three days per week and remote for up to two days per week
How to qualify
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. Additional qualifications (i.e., special conditions) may apply to a particular position and will be stated in the job ad.
1. Five (5) years of verifiable professional Civil Engineering experience. which includes two (2) years experience equivalent to City and County of San Francisco class 5207 Associate Engineer or higher; AND
2. Possession of a current Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California in Civil Engineering.
Working Conditions: Some positions may require climbing ladders; working in high places and confined spaces; exposure to various weather conditions and outdoors; bending, sitting, and walking for extended periods of time and over uneven surfaces. Positions in this class may also be required to work specific schedules which may include weekends, holidays, part time, nights, and/or overtime.
