Role description

Special Project: Wastewater Enterprise - Sewer/Collection System Projects

The Project Manager II (PM II) is responsible for managing projects and assisting a Senior Project Manager in administering projects related to improvements of the wastewater collection system projects within the Wastewater Enterprise (WWE) 10 Year Capital Program. The projects include pump stations and force mains, large diameter sewer pipes lining and replacement, and WWE facilities inspection/cleaning, and assessment.

The scope of the projects will include planning, environmental review, design, bid and award, and construction activities.  Under supervision of a Senior PM, the PM II will manage projects independently within the WWE 10 Year Capital Program.

The tasks involved in the various projects are as follows:

    1. Project Management: Manage project budget, schedule, and scope.
    2. Condition Assessment, Alternatives Analysis: Define the project needs, assess the conditions of all existing pertinent systems and identify feasible alternatives to address project needs.
      1. Alternatives Evaluation: Evaluate various alternatives for meeting the project objectives based on designated evaluation criteria. Recommend the preferred alternative.
      2. Prepare Conceptual Engineering Report: Prepare a report that specifies the 10% design level for the recommended alternative.
    3. Environmental Review: Conduct required environmental studies and analyze and evaluate project alternatives. If necessary, prepare draft and final EIR and EIS for circulation and public hearings. 
    4. Engineering Design: Develop 100% construction documents (plans and specifications) for the project.
    5. Bid and Contracting Support: Provide support to PUC Contracts group for bidding, bid analysis and the PUC award process.
    6. Construction Management Support: Provide construction management support to oversee and facilitate project construction. 
    7. Operational Start-Up: Provide as-needed support to facilitate the operational start-up of any newly constructed facilities.
    8. Close-out: Close-out the project finances and convey the pertinent documentation to the Operations staff.

The Project Manager II will perform other related duties as assigned.

Work Location: 525 Golden Gate, 9th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94102, USA  

Under the Citywide Telecommuting Policy and Program (TPP), staff may be allowed to telecommute for a maximum of two (2) workdays each week.

Work Schedule: Flexible, Monday through Friday, 8 hours during core business 8am to 5pm.

How to qualify

These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills, and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. Please note, additional qualifications (i.e., special conditions) may apply to a particular position and will be stated on the exam/job announcement.

  • Two (2) years of project coordination experience

AND

  • Bachelor's Degree in architecture, engineering, planning, or landscape architecture; plus four (4) years of responsible architectural, engineering or construction management experience, OR
  • A Bachelor's Degree in another field plus six (6) years of responsible experience in a field directly related to the project, OR
  • Eight (8) years of architectural, engineering, or construction management experience in a field directly related to the project, OR
  • Possession of a valid California registration as professional engineer or architect
