The Bureau of Building and Street Repair (BSR) provides professional construction, repair, and remodeling to City-owned facilities. We perform emergency-repair services twenty-four (24) hours a day to ensure that Police, Fire, and other Public Safety operations are fully functional; and oversee paving and street repair work, including patch paving and filling potholes, as well sewer repair, which includes brickwork.

Public Works currently has a vacancy for a Maintenance Manager (7263) within the Bureau of Building and Street Repair.

Role description

Under general direction, as a Maintenance Manager, you will plan, schedule, and supervise staff engaged in the maintenance, construction, and repair of craft activities for multiple large buildings and grounds.   You will also assist in developing policies and procedures relating to maintenance, construction planning and operations, and budget preparations.

Important and Essential Duties:
As a Maintenance Manager, your duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assisting in the preparation of maintenance and repair objectives, policies, and procedures.
• Ensure that maintenance, repair, and operations are performed in accordance with approved policies and practices.
• Confer with craft supervisors and maintenance planners regarding technical problems.
• Review and prepare various control reports regarding project status, work projections, maintenance procedures, and material use.
• Assist in developing, implementing, and revising an on-going deferred maintenance program and the annual division budget.
• Supervise personnel engaged in emergency maintenance dispatch and the preparation of labor, materials, and equipment estimates.
• Assign and review work to ensure staff development and advancement through effective use of training and employee development programs.
• Coordinate the completion of maintenance and repair projects.
• Investigate, resolve, and respond to complaints or craft jurisdictional disputes, and confer with site administrators, division heads, craft supervisors, vendors, and contractors.
• Develop and enforce work standards and guidelines to be applied in maintenance planning.
• Prepare formal standards and procedures manuals.
• Direct the work of craft supervisors and workers engaged in maintenance and repair activities.
• Investigate improved maintenance methods, materials, supplies, and tools and make recommendations.

How to qualify

Minimum Qualifications: 

Experience:
Four (4) years of experience supervising skilled craft workers engaged in maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds.

License:
Possession of a valid driver's license.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
Valid Driver’s License: Applicants must possess a valid State of California driver’s license with no restrictions that would prohibit them from legally performing the essential functions and duties of the role. 

Desirable Qualifications: The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify candidates advancing to the interview process and/or to identify job finalist(s) at the end of the selection process when referred for hiring.

• Experience with using a computerized work order tracking system, such as Infor/Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
