Role description

Special Project: Wastewater Enterprise - Sewer/Collection System Projects

The Project Manager II (PM II) is responsible for managing projects and assisting a Senior Project Manager in administering projects related to improvements of the wastewater collection system projects within the Wastewater Enterprise (WWE) 10 Year Capital Program. 

Wastewater Collection System Improvements Projects 
SFPUC’s sewer system is over 100-years old and capital improvements are needed to bring the different collection system assets up to a state of good repair.  SFPUC owns and maintains over 1,000-miles of sewers, 24 pump stations and associated force mains and transport/storage structures; and together these assets collect, store and convey combined sewage and stormwater flows (combined sewer flows) to the wastewater treatment plants.  Many of the facilities are at or near the end of its useful life and need improvements to allow SFPUC to maintain its sewer services.  

The scope of each project will include planning, environmental review, design, bid and award, and construction activities.  Under supervision of a Senior PM, the PM II will manage projects independently within the WWE 10 Year Capital program, including the following key projects:

  1. Geary BRT Sewer Improvements Phase 2 (Preconstruction and Construction Combined)  
  2. Hayes Valley Sewer Improvements 
  3. Sunnydale PS Safety Improvements 
  4. CSD Structures Rehab and Upgrades - Part 1 
  5. Folsom Area Stormwater Improvements - Contract A 
  6. Pump Station Security Upgrades 
  7. Geary BRT Sewer Improvements Phase 1 
  8. Sunnydale PS& FM Improvements - Phase A 

The Project Manager II will perform other related duties as assigned.

How to qualify

These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills, and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. Please note, additional qualifications (i.e., special conditions) may apply to a particular position and will be stated on the exam/job announcement.

  • Bachelor's Degree in architecture, engineering, planning, or landscape architecture; plus four (4) years of responsible architectural, engineering or construction management experience, OR
  • A Bachelor's Degree in another field plus six (6) years of responsible experience in a field directly related to the project, OR
  • Eight (8) years of architectural, engineering, or construction management experience in a field directly related to the project, OR
  • Possession of a valid California registration as professional engineer or architect.

AND

  • Two (2) years of project coordination experience.
