Role description
Project Name: Improving and Modernizing SFPUC's Water Data Management System
Reporting Location: 525 Golden Gate Ave., SF, CA 94102
Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm (Hybrid)
The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) Water Enterprise is looking for a Water Data Analyst to support the Hydrology and Water Systems (HAWS) group within the Water Administration and Analytics Division. The Water Data Analyst will perform various analytical tasks and report to the Senior Water Resources Engineer. The HAWS group plays a pivotal role in providing watershed and water systems analyses for water supply planning and operational purposes within the Water Enterprise. This involves collecting diverse climatic, hydrologic, and water resources data, which reside in the SFPUC’s database program. These data are essential in supporting streamflow forecasting, climate change studies, hydrologic modeling, water supply modeling, and other critical projects.
Essential Duties:
- Upgrade, improve and modernize the water data management system
- Perform complex data management, processing, and analysis activities of different projects related to streamflow forecasting, climate change studies, and water supply modeling
- Collaborate with different teams with SFPUC Water Enterprise, SFPUC Information Technology Services and software vendors to ensure seamless upgrades of the data management server and software version
- Review and convert existing reporting tools to a modern scripting language (such as Python)
- Develop and produce necessary training manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for SFPUC users
- Class 1052 IS Business Analyst performs other related duties as assigned.
How to qualify
Education: An associate degree in business administration, public administration, information systems, economics, finance, computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in one of the fields above or a closely-related field].
Experience: One (1) year in the information systems field, including technical support, content management, administration of network applications or system analysis.
Substitution:
- Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units / forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in one of the fields above or a closely related field.
- Completion of the 1010 Information Systems Trainee Program may be substituted for the required degree.
Desirable Qualifications:
- One year of experience with computer programming language. Experience with Python, R, and Visual Basic preferred.
- One year of experience using and managing database program
- Experience working with server management, software version control, and working experience in cloud environment.
- Experience in water and watershed-related data handling.
