About:

The San Francisco City Attorney’s Office is looking for an experienced, qualified, and motivated technology professional to join its Information Technology (IT) Team with a specialty on the Microsoft 365 platform.

Appointment Type: Permanent Exempt (PEX) position; individuals who are appointed to Exempt Positions are appointed at the pleasure of their appointing officer and are considered to be "at-will."

Category 18: Special project-based position limited to no more than 3 years in duration. This position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process, is considered "at will" and shall serve at the discretion of the Department Head.

Role description

About the Information Technology Team

The team is a collaborative and dynamic group of 13 employees, including an IT Director, two Systems Engineers, three IT Operations Support Administrators, two Application Support/Training employees, a Database Manager, a Business Application Administrator, a Technical Analyst, and a Project Manager. The team provides end users with a comprehensive package of applications, litigation support and computer forensic tools essential to delivering efficient and timely legal services to the City and County of San Francisco; conducts ongoing research of hardware and software developments; identifies technologies and knowledge base resources appropriate for existing and anticipated office needs; effectively integrates equipment and software into the daily workflow; and facilitates productivity and user satisfaction through effective customizations and timely support.

About the Microsoft 365 Analyst Position and Responsibilities

The Office seeks a Microsoft 365 (M365) Analyst to provide guidance and support for the M365 platform and services including SharePoint, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, Power Automate, Power Apps, and more. This role will create modern, high impact SharePoint sites for the Office. It will also administer and provide recommendations on the optimal usage of the M365 environment.

As the Microsoft 365 platform is constantly evolving, successful candidates must demonstrate technical aptitude and the ability to learn new technologies quickly in a real-world context. The candidate must also understand a basic level of graphic design and be able to use tools such as Photoshop.

This position requires enthusiasm and energy, willingness to learn and adapt quickly, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The successful candidate must be a disciplined self-starter as well as a positive team player. Ability to execute tasks with efficiency and quality is required, as is a demonstrated proficiency with general computer hardware and software concepts.

Position Information and Responsibilities

In addition to the range of work described above, the ideal candidate would also be able to perform the following:

  • Assistance with the administration of the M365 platform.
  • Develop, design, and promote modern SharePoint sites for the Office.
  • Develop and implement custom solutions using the M365 platform, including SharePoint, Teams, Lists, Forms, Power Automate, Power Apps, etc.
  • Provide training to end-users and administrators for M365 services.
  • Support and troubleshoot issues related to M365 applications.
  • Develop documentation and training material.
  • Research and advise on various aspects of the M365 platform including configuration and policy settings.
  • Stay informed about changes to and industry trends concerning the M365 environment through industry publications and online sources.

How to qualify

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

An associate degree in business administration, public administration, information systems, economics, finance, computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in one of the fields above or a closely-related field].

Experience:

One (1) year in the information systems field, including technical support, content management, administration of network applications or system analysis.

Substitution:

Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units / forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in one of the fields above or a closely related field.

Completion of the 1010 Information Systems Trainee Program may be substituted for the required degree.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience administering and supporting the M365 platform.
  • Experience with database technologies (MS SQL).
  • Ability to code in at least one of the following environments:
    • Power Platform
    • PowerShell / Command Shell
    • Python
    • JavaScript / TypeScript
    • HTML/CSS
  • One or more years of experience designing and implementing SharePoint sites.
  • Experience with cloud technologies (Microsoft Azure).
  • Familiarity with graphic design and graphic design tools
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • Certifications such as MCSE/MCSA.
  • Solid customer service skills.
  • Good analytic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good writing and documentation skills.
  • Good verbal and presentation skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Possess attention to detail.
  • Experience in the consulting / professional services field.
  • Ability to assume responsibility quickly and work independently and efficiently.
  • Ability to manage and appropriately balance an active and varied workload as well as adjust to occasional workload increases.

The Microsoft 365 Support Analyst position has a 10-step salary scale ranging from $108,056 – $135,928. The successful applicant is appointed to a salary step based on years of experience.
