Role description

Under supervision of a Registered Nurse, the 2308 Endoscopy/GI Technician assists the provider, nurse, and patient with pre, intra, and post care during gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures. The Endoscopy/GI Technician is responsible for performing technical skills within regulatory and organizational standards and departmental scope of service. They are proficient with gastrointestinal endoscopic equipment and ensure proper performance of endoscopic equipment, selecting alternate equipment or adjusting equipment settings to accommodate patient needs. Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists physician and nurse staff to complete endoscopic procedures, including, but not limited to: Colonoscopy with or without interventions, Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Endoscopic Mucosal Resections (EMR), Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) with and without interventions, Esophageal Dilation, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy.
  • Assists physician in accomplishing intraprocedural interventions, including but not limited to: obtaining biopsies, preparing diagnostic biopsy specimens, polypectomy, application of hemostatic clips, intramucosal injection, inflation of balloon dilators, and placement of intraluminal stents.
  • Assists physician and nurse staff to verify correct patient and procedures, informs patients of the procedure to be performed, and ensures patient comfort and safety during the procedure.
  • Prepares procedural rooms for the performance of gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures and maintains adequate inventory of supplies in endoscopy rooms.
  • Evaluates the functioning and calibration of the endoscopy equipment used during the procedure to ensure patient safety.
  • May assist in training staff in the operation of equipment, proper techniques, handling of instruments, and GI Procedures.

The Endoscopy/GI Technician also performs other related duties as assigned/required.

How to qualify

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

  1. Experience: Six (6) months of experience working with patients in a healthcare setting; AND

  2. License and Certification: Possession of a BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.

Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted

One-year fulltime employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week).

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring. 

  • Experience in a hospital, acute, or ambulatory care setting.
  • Experience in endoscopy or gastroenterology.
  • Experience with medical tools and equipment, including their setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems

Selection Procedures:

Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ) (Weight: Qualifying): Candidates will be required to complete an MQSQ as part of the employment application. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) for this position. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.

Assessment Component
Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in Supplemental Questionnaire exam that is designed to measure the knowledge, skills, and abilities in job related areas which may include but not be limited to:

Supplemental Questionnaire Examination (Weight: 100%): Candidates must achieve a passing score on the Supplemental Questionnaire exam in order to continue in the selection process and will be placed on the confidential eligible list in rank order according to their final score.

Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.

Certification
The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be the Rule of the List.

The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be 6 months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
