Role description
Project: Water Supply and Treatment Facilities Conduit/Conductor Installation Project
Position Summary: Under general supervision, the Electrician performs skilled electrical work associated with installation, maintenance, repair and alterations of a variety of residential, commercial and industrial electrical systems, machinery and equipment.
Essential Duties:
• Interprets civil and electrical drawings;
• Installs, maintains, tests and repairs electrical equipment; which may be in confined spaces;
• Cuts, threads, bends, installs GRS, EMT, and PVC conduit by hand and with equipment and pulls current carrying conductors;
• Erects and uses ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts in accordance to safe work practices;
• Interprets and applies local and national codes, and building specifications;
• Communicates a two-way radio to respond to service requests at various locations and may be required to respond to emergencies and;
• Performs other duties as required.
How to qualify
Education: Completion of a recognized Apprenticeship program (Inside Wireman Apprenticeship); AND,
Experience: One (1) year of journey level electrician experience; AND,
License and Certification: Possession of a valid California (Class C) driver license.
Substitution: Additional experience as a journey level electrician may be substituted for the required electrician apprenticeship on a year-for-year basis.
Six years of inside wireman experience equivalent to journey-level as defined by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers may be substituted for the required experience.
Desirable Qualifications: The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.
- Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting/repairing Industrial Electrical systems
- Experience working with Transformers, Motors, Motor Controls, VFD’s (1-2500hp), Speed drives, process controls, SCADA and DCS systems
- Experience bending, cutting and threading Galvanized Rigid Steel conduit and PVC-coated Galvanized Rigid Steel conduit
- Experience operating/repairing medium voltage (2300/4160 volts) pumps/motors and the associated VFD’s, Soft Starters, motor controllers, circuit breakers and switchgear, etc.
- Working knowledge of Limitorque and Auma valve actuators used in the transmission and distribution of drinking water
- Experience working on UPS’ up to 150kva
- Experience installing and repairing chemical injection pumps
- No reservations to working in Confined Spaces, Bucket Trucks and Scissor Lifts
