The Assistant Coordinator, Marketing & Digital Content Strategy supports the strategic development and day-to-day management of creative, goal-aligned content across the Department’s digital communications channels, driving community action and engagement in SF Environment programs and services. You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues, as well as other City and County of San Francisco Departments, community based organizations, stakeholders, and partners, in support of projects and initiatives that drive behavior change in support of a healthier San Francisco. You’ve got the foundational experience and passion to take SF Environment to the next level in our digital marketing strategies— affecting positive change in the everyday behaviors of San Franciscans.
What You’ll Do - The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this position and are not intended to be an inclusive list.
Digital Content Strategy & Audience Development
- Develop and execute an integrated content strategy across SF Environment’s digital communications channels (social media, newsletter, website), under general direction
- Pitch and execute creative, channel-exclusive digital media content and campaigns that align with departmental goals and connect with the values of San Francisco’s diverse public
- Maintain editorial calendar and manage daily engagement across SF Environment social channels and e-newsletter
- Research and execute strategic audience growth strategies to build the Department’s social media and newsletter followings, especially within San Francisco
- Engage with City social media liaisons and external partners to ensure cross-promotion and amplification of campaigns and initiatives
- Deliver regular analytics reports that detail channel performance and inform content strategy
- Evaluate, propose, and launch new prospective digital communications channels and strategies
- Maintain subject matter expertise in digital communications best practices, audience growth and engagement, and digital storytelling through attendance of periodic workshops, conferences, and related forums
Project Coordination & Program Support
- Assist in the coordination and management of marketing projects and initiatives, liaising with project managers, colleagues, specialty vendors, and external stakeholders in the execution of project scopes
- Manage live social media engagement and photography and/or videography needs for special events, workshops, and press conferences
- Manage or support virtual event logistics and maintain best practices guidance documents
- Support Web Coordinator and Graphic Designer in the fulfillment of web and print communications, serving as back-up, when needed
- Manage and respond to all public inquiries received via email, social media, and Department website(s), coordinating with colleagues and other City departments on responses, as appropriate
- Support budget and invoice tracking and other administrative needs, as directed

How to qualify
Education - Possession of a baccalaureate degree in public administration, business administration, environmental science, or a closely related field, or a field related to marketing or public outreach (such as marketing, communications, or writing) from an accredited college or university; AND
Experience - One (1) year of professional experience in planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating environmentally related programs, within the specialty area of marketing; AND
License - Possession of a valid driver's license.

Selection Procedures - After application submission, candidates deemed qualified must complete all subsequent steps to advance in this selection process, which includes the following:
Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ) (Weight: Qualifying) - Candidates will be required to complete a MQSQ as part of the employment application. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) for this position. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications
Supplemental Questionnaire Evaluation (Weight: 100%) - Candidates who respond to the MQSQ will be prompted to complete a Supplemental Questionnaire. In order to advance, candidates must complete the Supplemental Questionnaire and it must be submitted before the provided deadline. The information provided on the Supplemental Questionnaire must be consistent with the information on the application and is subject to verification. Once submitted, applicant responses on the Supplemental Questionnaire cannot be changed. Applicants must achieve a passing score on the Supplemental Questionnaire Evaluation in order to be ranked on the eligible list.
The Supplemental Questionnaire is designed to measure knowledge, skills, and/or abilities in job-related areas as described within this announcement. This includes knowledge of: Microsoft Office Suite and related common office software applications; web content management systems, such as Drupal; CRM and analytic CMS tools such as Google Analytics, SproutSocial, and Constant Contact; quantitative and qualitative data analysis and reporting; skillful writing and editing to persuade and inform; and community-based social marketing and other behavior-change tools. The ability to: manage all key social media platforms, with understanding of associated best practices; support and/or manage marketing projects; be a self-starter with excellent organizational and research skills; collaborate with community and City partners and Department staff to deliver quality programming; work both independently and in a team.
After the eligible list is finalized/adopted, the department may administer additional selection procedures to make a final hiring decision (e.g. interviews, written exercise, etc.). Applicants meeting the Minimum Qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through all steps of the selection process.
Certification - The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be Rule of Ten (10) Scores. Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.
Eligible List - A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created, and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection, upon request, once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this civil service examination process is subject to change after adoption (e.g., as a result of appeals), as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.
The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be six months, and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: All City and County of San Francisco employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment.
