The Department of Public Health’s (DPH) Fiscal Division is accepting applications for Class 9924 Public Service Aide - Health Services as Account Clerk Trainee.
Exempt employees are considered "at will" and serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer. The qualified applicant pool resulting from this recruitment may be utilized to fill future exempt vacancies within the San Francisco Department of Public Health (DPH).

Role description

Temporary Exempt - In accordance with San Francisco Charter Section 10.104.

The Fiscal Division has developed a training program to provide candidates an opportunity to gain account clerk experience that would enable them to apply for positions such as 1630 Account Clerk. The scope of the work includes the following; learning to collect checks and create a summary for the checks, learn about the ledgers and accounts within DPH, recognizing accounting codes and general ledger accounts, and validating transaction receipts when they arrive. The essential duties of this position include:

  • Receiving, date stamping and distributing purchase order requests, invoices and other incoming documents from the mail or dedicated Fiscal email to the assigned accountants
  • Verifying mathematical accuracy of supplier invoices, revenue refunds and employee reimbursements
  • Receiving, gathering and matching invoices and receipts against purchase orders
  • Inputting item/service receipts into the new accounting system
  • Processing vouchers and invoice payments into the City’s accounting system
  • Assists with organizing and filing source documents such as purchase orders, invoices/payment vouchers, revenue refunds and revolving fund replenishments
  • Assists with photocopying, scanning documents
  • Assists with basic bookkeeping duties
  • Assisting other staff with other related duties

The 9924 Public Service Aide, Account Clerk Trainee, also performs other related duties.

How to qualify

Minimum Qualification (required):
Possession of high school diploma or equivalent

Desirable Qualifications: The stated desirable qualifications listed below may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

  • Current enrollment in, or successful completion of, a Bachelor's degree program from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in accounting, finance, economics, business, or a closely related field.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail including documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
