About:
The San Francisco Department of Public Health’s Information Technology Department is the technology services provider within Public Health, delivering technology infrastructure and services to approximately 10,000 users within the organization to help support over 100,000 patients annually.
This is a Permanent Civil Service career opportunity for an Information Systems Project Director.

Role description
Duties Include
- Manage the development and implementation of complex IT projects in a healthcare setting
- Work closely with business and IT teams to plan, coordinate, integrate, test, implement and close projects
- Work on go-live coordination and transition to operations.
- Collaborate with clinical and/or functional business stakeholders and Facilities teams to define scope of IT projects
- Put together budgets
- Identify the impact on various IT groups and coordinate activities to successfully implement infrastructure projects
- Follow the department’s project management methodology and reporting requirements
- Develop project schedules and other artifacts using the department’s project management tools and methods.
- Identify project issues/risks and communicate appropriately to sponsors
- Implement corrective measures as necessary.
- Document business workflows and provide support for organizational change management efforts.
- Manage customer relations by fostering effective relationships with business users
- Provide consulting services to stakeholders as needed.
- Assist in prioritizing projects by researching client requests and accurately estimating project effort.
- Demonstrate strategic thinking and problem-solving to diagnose project problems and identify possible solutions
- Document the pros and cons of proposed solutions.
- Direct and supervise the work of subordinate staff and/or project team members
- Provide guidance to staff and manage performance.
- Develop vendor contracts by working on Requests for Proposals (RFPs), vendor selection, and preparation of statements of work (SOWs)
- Monitor vendor performance
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
How to qualify
REQUIRED BEFORE APPLYING
Education
- An associate degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university
OR - Its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units
- At least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in computer science or a closely-related field
Experience
- Seven (7) years* of experience in system administration, information systems development, maintenance and support, or information technology project management
- Including
- Two years of supervisory experience
AND - Two years of Healthcare Information Technology Experience**
- Two years of supervisory experience

Substitution
- Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year* basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years)
- One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units / forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in computer science or a closely related field
*One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours of work experience (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours a week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

Certification
