San Francisco Public Works (SFPW) currently has a vacancy for the role of IT Operations Support Administrator III (1093) within our Information Technology Unit.
Information Technology
Our team designs, programs, operates, and maintains all department-wide automated information systems and equipment. Services include process analysis and planning; software development, configuration, and implementation; network and hardware installation; technology operations; help desk and security; and software support and system compliance functions.
Appointment Type: Temporary Provisional (TPV). This is not a permanent appointment. A provisional appointee must participate and be successful in a Civil Service examination for this classification and be selected through an open competitive process in order to be considered for permanent appointment. Provisional appointments may not exceed three (3) years.

Role description
With the guidance of general supervision, the 1093 IT Operations Support Admin III is responsible for leading a support team that provides systems and technical application support for Public Works external and internal staff. You will identify and resolve issues with various electronic systems.
This is a vital and valuable role in the deployment of new applications which includes system testing, creating training documentation, training, and providing ongoing support to all users.
Major, Important, and Essential Duties:
The duties you'll perform will include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide first-level technical support for Public Works staff, client departments, and contractors/consultants.
- Evaluate issues and incidents, determine impact, recommend solutions, seek workarounds, and coordinate with application engineers to support all users if necessary.
- Perform professional-level duties including researching, compiling, analyzing, and reconciling complex financial data to resolve technical issues and incidents.
- Provide all users with prompt, professional, and outstanding customer service daily.
- Inform users, management, and clients of severe problems.
- Research and analyze new procedural policies to develop, assess, and coordinate new training programs.
- Create, maintain, and enhance end-user training materials, policies, and procedures.
- Posting training materials, policies, and procedures online
- Lead training development and provide end-user training for new applications.
- Performs related duties as required.
Notes: The position may require sufficient physical strength and coordination for lifting, pushing, pulling and/or carrying the weight of computer systems equipment. The position may also require the following: bending, stooping and/or crawling to install or repair computer systems hardware, hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity for taking apart casings, installing parts and reconnecting computer systems hardware. Depending on location the incumbent may be exposed to or affected by extensive VDT exposure.
How to qualify
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Requires an Associate Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR it's equivalent in terms of total course credits/units. [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in computer science or a closely-related field].
AND
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience performing analysis, installation, and technical support in a network environment.
Substitution:
Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units / forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in computer science or a closely related field.

The selection process will include an evaluation of applications in relation to minimum requirements. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.
