Role description
Project: Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Service Portfolio Management
Under general direction, of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) the 1070 IS Project Director will act as the primary Program & Project Manager representing ITS to review/update our Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity plan, as well as manage associated projects. This role manages the design, implementation, and communication of business continuance and disaster recovery plans and processes that ensure the security and integrity of SFPUC data, databases, information systems, and technology. The work will include collaborating with ITS, Vendors, the Department of Technology and SFPUC Enterprises and Bureaus to review/update the ITS Applications, Services, and Project Portfolio information to ensure alignment with our Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plan.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Acting as the Office of the CIO representative with the overall responsibility for the successful initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling, documentation, and closure of ITS Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity related projects.
- Apply in depth project management skills to oversee several simultaneous projects related to creating a Disaster Recovery /Business Continuity (DR/BC) plan for critical ITS systems.
- Be able to technically consume and understand the ITS Services and Application portfolio to ensure a DR/BC plan can be created and prioritized across the agency.
- Act as a liaison to ensure all plans are in alignment with the SFPUC Business Owners, Technical Teams and the ITS Cybersecurity Office.
- Work with the various groups in SFPUC to ensure a business impact analysis (BIA) is completed as requested by the Department of Technology to understand the consequences of disruption of a business function and develop recovery strategies.
- Interfaces with vendors and service providers to help establish a repeatable process on contracts, statements of work and BC/DR plans for outsourced services and systems to ensure cohesiveness and contractual compliance.
- Design and conduct exercises to assure business team strategies and plans can be executed as designed and to train teams in the execution of those strategies to assure roles, responsibilities and plans are clearly understood.
- Develops and administers awareness and training in support of the Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Program.
- Manage small and large scope walk-through and simulation-type disaster recovery exercises leading multi-discipline groups of employees, consultants, and vendors to ensure resiliency against disasters and drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure the retirement of DR capabilities at end of service.
- Actively monitor, track, and manage project tasks, timelines, deliverables, and overall quality of project activities.
- Manage communications and messaging to upper management and enterprises.
- Performs related task and responsibilities as assigned.

How to qualify
Education:
An associate degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in computer science or a closely-related field].
Experience:
Seven (7) years of experience in system administration, information systems development, maintenance and support, or information technology project management, including two (2) years of supervisory experience
Substitution:
Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units / forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in computer science or a closely related field.
