Role description
Under general nursing and medical direction, utilizing standardized procedures, the Nurse Practitioner functions within an organized system for the delivery of health care in association with other members of the multidisciplinary health care team and performs specialized nurse practitioner duties in clinical settings.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- Provides routine preventative, primary care, and specialty care to children aged 0-25 years, including but not limited to well-child care, urgent care, developmental screening and family planning services;
- Provides case management, including clinical management within a multidisciplinary team for obesity, diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, and other disorders, coordination of nutrition and physical activity programs, group visits, patient/parent education, and other creative modalities for children with obesity.
- Orders diagnostic tests which may include laboratory, X-rays, other imaging, E.K.G.’s and other disease or condition specific diagnostic tests;
- Identifies and manages patients with chronic diseases appropriate to pediatrics, as well as case management for specific populations, as appropriate;
- Serves as ‘Provider of the Day’ in rotation with other providers to follow-up clinic-wide lab results and basic associated management and communication with PCP if indicated;
- Assesses, diagnoses and develops treatment plans and furnishes medications;
- Counsels, educates patients; serves a diverse population with a trauma informed lens including care to vulnerable populations (LGTBQ, low socioeconomic groups, etc.)
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare team;
- Participates in educational and programmatic activities with the clinic, including but not limited to daily huddles, weekly improvement huddles, QI projects, equity work, case conferences, and staff meetings;
- Serves as liaison between clinic and our community partners;
- Documents medical records in a timely manner and adheres to patient privacy and HIPPA.
The Nurse Practitioner (Pediatric Care) performs other related duties as assigned/required.
How to qualify
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. SPECIALTY AREA REQUIREMENTS: (Pediatric Care)
a. CERTIFICATION: Specialization as a Pediatric NP or Family NP; AND
2. CERTIFICATION: Possession of national board certification, or eligibility, as a Nurse Practitioner issued by one of the following recognized national certifying body or organization:
a. American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
b. American Nurses Association – American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
c. Pediatric Nursing Certification Board
d. National Certification Corporation (NCC) for the Women’s Health Care and Neonatal Nursing Specialties
e. American Association of Critical Care Nurses; AND
3. LICENSE: Possession of a valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND
4. LICENSE: Possession of a valid California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND
5. LICENSE: Possession of a current medication furnishing license issued by the California Board of Registered Nurses; AND
6. EDUCATION: Possession of a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college or university

SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Some positions may require additional special conditions including:
- Bilingual Proficiency Spanish
- One year of Pediatrics experience
Language Proficiency Exam:
Candidates deemed qualified who meet the special condition target language must pass a departmentally approved language proficiency exam prior to appointment. Only those eligible candidates who pass the bilingual proficiency test will be considered for the bilingual position.
One-year full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.
