The Mission of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is to protect and promote the health of all San Franciscans. SFDPH strives to achieve its mission through the work of two main Divisions - the San Francisco Health Network and Population Health. The San Francisco Health Network is the City’s only complete system of care and has locations throughout the City, including Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, and over 15 primary care health centers.
The San Francisco Department of Public Health is accepting applications for a permanent exempt Director of Primary Care (0942 Manager VII).
Role description
The Director of Primary Care (0942 Manager VII) directs the fourteen San Francisco Health Network Primary Care health centers and associated programs. Through supervising a ten-person executive team and managing a large central staff, the Director is responsible for the work of our care teams in all the clinics, quality programs, population health equity, workforce development, budget, and all aspects of clinical operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Plan, direct, oversee, and resource the operations of the Department of Public Health Primary Care clinics.
- Develop, design, implement, coordinate, and evaluate clinic programs and services, including operational data and quality metrics.
- Supervise the work of the central Primary Care Leadership Team.
- Determine resource levels and allocation prioritization to optimize Primary Care budgets.
- Manage integrated programs within Primary Care, including dental services, licensed acupuncturists, podiatry and nutrition services.
- Represent Primary Care in the San Francisco Health Network executive leadership to ensure collaboration and coordination across departments.
The Director of Primary Care (0942 Manager VII) performs other duties as assigned or required.
How to qualify
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (please make sure your application demonstrates that you possess all aspects of these qualifications):
- EDUCATION: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;
AND
- EXPERIENCE: Six (6) years of verifiable professional experience managing a health care entity, all of which must include supervision of health care professionals.
EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis up to a total of two (2) years. One year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter units.
Note: One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours of qualifying work experience (one year if performed full-time at 40 hours per week). Any overtime hours that were worked above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine qualifying hours worked.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Master's degree in a health-related or administrative field from an accredited college or university
- Three (3) years of experience working with an electronic health record system (EMR)
- Leadership over programs aimed at reducing health disparities or improving workforce diversity, equity, and inclusion
