ABOUT SFPUC CUSTOMER SERVICES

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) Customer Services Bureau (CSB) is responsible for the billing and collection of utility services and is the primary point of contact for water and wastewater customers. CSB maintains over 175,000 water and wastewater service accounts, over 4,000 municipal and retail electric service accounts, and approximately 500 land-lease accounts totaling over one billion in annual revenue. The Bureau is also responsible for meter reading and field investigations, as well as responding to over 200,000 customer inquiries, complaints, and requests for services annually.

Role description

Under general supervision, performs complex, responsible and specialized clerical duties in the Customer Services Bureau of the SFPUC in connection with its Capacity Charges operations. The essential duties include reporting, organizing and tracking building permits and plan sets, reconciling fees, and providing customer service to SFPUC customers. 

Essential Functions:

  1. Receives and processes Building Permit Applications and architectural plan sets, researching status and characteristics of each, organizing them for staff to review, and returning them upon completion.
  2. Prepares and maintains reports and documents relative to the assessment, billing, collection, and reporting of capacity fees.
  3. Discusses customers permit application status and provides general information regarding the policies and procedures of the unit via email and phone. Refers customers to assigned permit reviewers and other departments for additional information, as necessary.
  4. Compiles reports relative to permits issued and fees collected by the unit, reconciles the data with reports from DBI and SFPUC finance departments, resolves any discrepancies, and submits reports to management for review.
  5. Inputs billing and payment information into CSB’s Customer Care and Billing (CC&B) software, copies and organizes files related to each payment to the shared CSB drive.
  6. Creates new accounts in CC&B to apply permit and payment information, as needed.
  7. Records minutes during weekly team meetings.

The 1478 Utility Services Representative will perform other related duties as assigned.

How to qualify

Experience:

One (1) year of clerical experience in a customer service, billing or collection department of a utility, bank, department store, Insurance Company or credit agency.
