Role description

Position Description:

Under direction, is responsible for planning, organizing, assigning and supervising the activities of the work of Watershed Keepers, and one or more crews engaged in the care of watershed and reservoir properties, aqueducts and facilities and in preventing trespassing and pollution of water supplies, and encroachments of rights-of-way and performs related duties as required.

Requires responsibility for: explaining and enforcing existing work methods and procedures; efficient and safe utilization of tools and motorized equipment; maintaining routine records and reports of operations. Nature of work requires: some physical effort and exposure to the elements in the supervision of the patrolling and caring for the watershed area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Plans program, makes assignments and supervises the activities of the Watershed Keepers in the patrolling of the Watershed and reservoir areas, and transmission line rights of way.

2. Supervises the operation of various pipelines, flumes, valves, screens, stream flow, spillways and sluice gates which regulate the flow of water to and from reservoirs.

3. Supervises the safe operation of dams, reservoirs, and water delivery facilities.

4. Arrange and adjusts the areas to be covered by subordinates; arranges for replacements and changes of assignments during vacations, sick-leave periods, and emergencies.

5. Responsible for the maintenance of the various logs, records, and reports pertinent to this position.

6. Responsible for the proper maintenance of launches and other watercraft used on reservoirs.

Reporting Location:

Moccasin is located 140 miles east of the San Francisco Bay Area and requires a 5-hour round trip commute by car in fair weather.

How to qualify

Training and Experience:

Requires completion of high school, supplemented by 3 years of experience as a Watershed Keeper or comparable experience.

License:

Requires possession of a valid state motor vehicle operator's license.
