Appointment Type: Permanent-Exempt. This position is exempt from Civil Service Commission rules pursuant to the City and County of San Francisco, Charter Section 10.104, and incumbents serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer. The duration of the appointment shall not exceed 36 months.

Role description
The Maintenance Project Manager plans, organizes, directs, and controls all or part of complex projects from concept through design and construction to closeout of the project contract.
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Prepares and monitors the project budget, including occasionally obtaining funding. Oversees the completion of conceptual design and planning activities.
- Schedules and budgets complex projects. Coordinates work of a multidisciplinary technical staff across organizational boundaries.
- Works extensively with the public, private contractors, special interest groups, governmental funding and regulatory agencies, and City and County departments. Coordinates EIR processes and/or obtains permits.
- Controls project cost and schedule. Reviews change orders.
- Uses computer-based project management systems. Negotiates and resolves contract disputes. Maintains client contractor relationships.
- Makes effective presentations. Serves as primary contact for all parties involved in the project. Prepares weekly progress reports to the Director of Facilities and Director of Maintenance.
- Makes preliminary, progress, and final inspections on complex jobs for compliance with specifications, code, and approved practices. Manages several complex and diverse projects simultaneously.
- Analyzes blueprints and specifications. Consults with and advises personnel regarding techniques in altering, maintaining or repairing equipment or systems. Estimates and requisitions supplies, materials, tooling, equipment, and services, including the determination of kind, grade, size, quantity, and quality.
- Maintains records as required. Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
How to qualify
Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
Experience: Three (3) years of verifiable experience in work emphasizing facility improvements, alterations, maintenance and repair at a commercial airport or large campus
License: Possession and maintenance of a valid class C driver’s license
Education Substitution: Additional work experience as described above may fully substitute for the required degree on a year for year basis up to 4 years. One year of experience is equal to 30 semester units/45 quarter units.
One-year full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours. (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on 40-hour work week.) Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

Desirable Qualifications
The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.
- Three (3) years of experience as a craft shop supervisor or manager with responsibility for estimating, planning, scheduling, assigning, inspecting and evaluating the work of first-level supervisors or journeymen engaged in building, structure, facility operations, repair construction alterations or airfield maintenance
- Possession of a valid C16 license
- Possession of a valid Sprinkler Fitter license
- Possession of one or more project management certifications, such as CAPM, PMP, ACP or similar
- Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association codes and standards
- Experience leading maintenance projects in a team environment
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to manage tasks, time, resources and competing priorities in a structured and orderly manner

Selection Procedures:
The selection process will include evaluation of applications in relation to minimum requirements. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement to the interview. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Clearance: Candidates for employment with the San Francisco Airport Commission are required to undergo a criminal history record check, including FBI fingerprints, and Security Threat Assessment in order to determine eligibility for security clearance and may be required to undergo drug/alcohol screening. Per Civil Service Commission Rule Section 110.9.1, every applicant for an examination must possess and maintain the qualifications required by law and by the examination announcement for the examination. Failure to obtain and maintain security clearance may be basis for termination from employment with the Airport Commission.
Customs Clearance: This position requires that the incumbent be qualified for unescorted access to the San Francisco International Airport U.S. Customs Security Area. An application for a U.S. Custom Access Seal may be submitted to Customs ONLY after employment has commenced. Employment in this position requires that the incumbent submit an application for, successfully acquire and maintain a Customs Access Seal. Per Civil Service Commission Rule 110.9.1, every applicant must possess and maintain the qualifications required by law and by the examination announcement for this examination. Failure to acquire or maintain customs access, a requirement for this position, may be basis for termination from employment with the Airport Commission. Customs Access Seal requirements and procedures are located in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 19, Part 122, Sections 181 or 189.
