This is a Permanent Civil Service career opportunity for an Assistant Epic IS Trainer, who will play a crucial role in the support of an engaging training curriculum that integrates build configurations with departmental and end-user workflows to make the system meaningful and useful.

Minimum Qualifications for this Recruitment

  • Only current Class 1031 City employees
    • With Category 18 exempt appointments
      AND
    • Who worked at least one year in that status by December 15, 2022, with no break in service.

This selection process is being conducted in accordance with the 48th Supplement to Mayoral Proclamation Declaring the Existence of a Local Emergency Dated February 25, 2020 and temporary Civil Service Commission [CSC] Rule 111.17.

Role description

Under general supervision, Assistant Epic IS Trainers contribute to the daily administration and coordination of training functions and events, provide end-user and provider scheduling and software support, perform light field service-related tasks for training and classroom devices, as well as tutorial instruction on operational procedures specific to the SFDPH Epic platform.

Duties Include

  • Provide training assistance to the SFDPH Epic Training and Clinical Informatics department.
  • Provide administrative support to the SFDPH Epic Training department and training.
  • Help initiate new innovative strategies in the training program.
  • Help develop and maintain training materials, manuals, course catalogs, and supplies.
  • Conduct and organize workshops and orientation programs for all end-user roles.
  • Ensure a positive learning environment in training execution.
  • Run and communicate reports on events and training programs.
  • Assist in scheduling, communicating, and distributing training-related artifacts.
  • Perform end-user registration, just-in-time support, and resolution of registration issues
  • Prepare training Key Performance Indicator (KPI) documentation for delivery and quality of the program
  • Maintain and manage events and calendar of the training department.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolution of hardware, software, and Audio/visual equipment problems.
  • Provide training and support for technology equipment and web services used for meetings.
  • Provide training and support for multifunction copier/printer/scanner devices.
  • Other related duties as required.

How to qualify

Minimum Qualifications for this Recruitment

  • A minimum of one year as a Category 18 exempt appointee in Class 1031 by December 15, 2022
    AND
  • Must be a current, exempt employee with the City and County of San Francisco with no break in service

Underlying Minimum Qualifications

  • Education
    • An associate degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university
      OR
    • The equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in computer science or a closely-related field].
  • Education Substitution
    • Experience in delivering training in computer applications and procedures may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years).
      • One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours of work experience (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours above 40 hours a week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment. 

Desirable

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferably in computer science, information systems, information technology, or a closely related field;
  • Strong knowledge of, or exposure to, Epic Healthcare IT system;
  • Extensive and in-depth knowledge of computer processes and procedures;
  • IT training experience.

Selection Procedures

  • Qualified applicants will be ranked on an eligible list according to the length of their Category 18 exempt City service and any other qualifying points such as promotive or Veteran’s Preference in accordance with CSC rules.
  • Work history will be verified through City records which will be the final authority.

Eligible List/Score Report
A confidential eligible list of qualifying candidates will be created and used for certification purposes only. A score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection upon request once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this selection process is subject to change after adoption (e.g., as a result of appeals), as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.

The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be 12 months.

For those candidates that do not have their qualifying 12 months at the time of eligible list posting, you will be placed under waiver on the eligible list and not available for appointment until you qualify. For example, if you were appointed to your Cat 18 position in November 2021, you would be under waiver until November 2022.

Certification Rule
The certification rule for this selection process will be Rule of the List.
