Role description

Project: Power Customer Retention and Outreach Project

The Power Communications team works across CleanPowerSF and Hetch Hetchy Power programs, and we are responsible for customer notifications, digital communications, social media, traditional media, community engagement, marketing, advertising, and public relations. The 1310 Public Relations Assistant will support on communications content, public information projects, and community engagement and outreach for SFPUC Power Enterprise programs.

The Position: Join our dynamic, passionate team and help build the future of clean energy! The SFPUC is expanding access to clean energy for all San Franciscans through its CleanPowerSF and Hetch Hetchy Power programs. We currently serve about 70% of the electricity demand in San Francisco and we are looking for an entry-level public relations professional to assist with information and education materials, customer and stakeholder community engagement and outreach, and the development of creative content for a variety of digital and print platforms.

Essential Functions:

Stakeholder Engagement and Outreach: Support on executing community and stakeholder meetings and regular stakeholder communications; assist with conducting proactive community outreach and managing contact information for individual stakeholders and community groups

Community Events: Participate in local community events such as neighborhood fairs, festivals, movie screenings, receptions, corporate events, school events, and neighborhood group presentations; assist with logistics, scheduling, materials, and staffing

Marketing and Customer Communications: Assist with the execution of monthly and annually required customer communications and mailings; support on advertising campaigns and marketing for customers programs

Website Management: Assist with developing and executing a content strategy for CleanPowerSF.org and Power content on SFPUC.org; execute regular website updates

Content Creation: Help develop compelling and creative content for social media, e-newsletters, marketing collateral, website pages, and other Power Enterprise communications

Records and Inventory Management: Update and organize the team’s electronic files on Sharepoint, Shared and Public Drives, etc.; inventory printed materials and reorder as necessary

Racial Equity: Support implementation of the SFPUC’s Racial Equity Action Plan, attend internal racial equity meetings, and integrate equity into all Power communications projects

Other: Perform related duties as assigned

How to qualify

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Requires possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public relations, journalism, English, mass communications, public administration, public policy or a related field.

Substitution: Professional experience in public affairs, public information, editorial, newspaper, magazine, radio, television, public relations, social media, digital engagement, advertising or similar work involving collection and dissemination of news and information may be substituted for the re- quired degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of 2 years). Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units equal one year. One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week.) Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

·         Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills

·         Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

·         Interest in clean energy, sustainability, and the environment

·         Proficient in a language other than English
