About:

The San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) has the mission to protect and promote the health of all San Franciscans.  SFDPH provides direct services at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, Laguna Honda Hospital, Population Health clinics, Jail Health, community behavioral health and a network of primary care health centers across the city.  SFDPH has employs over 8000 people and has an annual budget of $2.4 billion.

We are seeking to fill a number of 1070 IS Project Director positions across multiple teams within the IT Department – this includes positions with the Office of the CIO and the Metrics, Analytics and Data Integration teams.  For program specific position descriptions, click on the corresponding "Program Specific Job Descriptions” below.

Role description

  • Responsible for tracking tasks, defining next steps, identifying accountability owners.
  • Align work requests to the department’s overall true north goals and objectives.
  • Plan, prioritize and manage workload to enable timely completion of tasks.  Recommend procedures consistent with departmental directives, policies, and regulations.
  • Utilize Microsoft products including MS Teams, SharePoint, and MS Office products.
  • Utilize business tools such as DocuSign, PeopleSoft, Power BI, Tableau and ServiceNow.
  •  Performs other related duties as assigned.

Program Specific Job Descriptions:

How to qualify

Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing dare unless otherwise noted.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

Education:
An associate degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in computer science or a closely-related field]; AND

Experience:
Seven (7) years of experience in system administration, information systems development, maintenance and support, or information technology project management, including two (2) years of supervisory experience. Additionally, two (2) years of these experience should be in the area of Healthcare Information Technology.

Substitution: Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units / forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in computer science or a closely related field.

Supervisory experience may differ from Managerial experience as outlined by the San Francisco Department of Human Resource.  Please see the URL below.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a Healthcare environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong working experience with collaboration and communication tools
  • Strong working experience with Microsoft O365
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau
  • Knowledge of LEAN fundamentals

SELECTION PROCEDURES
Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (Weight: Qualifying): Applicants will be required to complete a Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire that will be emailed. Applicants will be required to respond to the MQSQ in the time frame indicated, and submit their answers as directed. 

Supplemental Questionnaire: Weight: 100% 
Qualified candidates will be sent a supplemental questionnaire exam that must be completed by the set date. Candidates will be evaluated on their relative knowledge, skill and ability levels in job-related areas. Supplemental Questionnaire will be evaluated in relations to the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this class. A passing score must be achieved on the Supplemental Questionnaire in order to be placed/ranked on the Eligible List. Candidate responses on the Supplemental Questionnaire cannot be changed once submitted. Candidates will be placed in rank order according to their final score on the Supplemental Questionnaire.  

The department may administer additional position-specific selection procedures to make final hiring decisions.

Candidate scores on these examinations may also be applied to other announcements involving other job titles, when directed by the Human Resources Director.

Eligible List/Score Report: 
A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created, and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection, upon request, once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this civil service examination process is subject to change after adoption (e.g., as a result of appeals), as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission. 

The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be of twelve (12) months, and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director. 

Certification: 
The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be Rule of 10 scores. Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.

Upon approval of the Human Resource Director (see Civil Service Rule 111A.26.5), the eligible list/score report resulting from this announcement may be used by other departments that also use this classification or a similar classification.
