- Appointment Type: Temporary Exempt (TEX), Category 18 and is limited to three years. This position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer.
Role description
Under supervision of a Worker's Compensation Claims Supervisor, this position provides clerical support services to the DHR Workers' Compensation Division in the Document Support Unit.
Examples of important and essential functions of this position include:
- Process incoming U.S. Mail and interoffice mail, and outgoing mail
- Assign incoming documents to the correct electronic claim file; code and index documents, records, and correspondence
- Set up new claims for adjusting staff in an efficient and accurate manner
- Photocopy and assemble documents from electronic claims system as directed; file, maintain and retrieve documents, records and correspondence
- Electronically Process Claims to the State Workers Compensation System
- Track specified documents and input information into tables or spreadsheets
- Disseminate information and answer inquiries by communicating with the departmental personnel, ,other City departments and the public
- Request and obtain records from storage upon request from claims staff
- File room organization and cleanup as required
- Other clerical duties as assigned
How to qualify
Experience:
One (1) year of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents, filing, use of office equipment, public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail.
Substitution:
Any one of the following may substitute for six (6) months of the required experience:
- Completion of a clerical training program (240 hours); OR
- 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university.
