Candidates will be required to complete a MQSQ as part of the employment application. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) for this position. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.

Multiple Choice Examination (Weight: 80%):
Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in an examination designed to measure knowledge, skills and/or abilities in job-related areas which may include but not be limited to: knowledge of library procedures, reference aids, library terminology, electronic resources, software applications, basic web editing and design, office procedures, the role of a public and/or school library in the community; ability to lead supporting staff; attention to detail and accuracy, including money handling procedures, operate office equipment, ability to learn and deliver training and support to others for software, hardware, and electronic media; ability to problem solve, multitask and manage deadlines, ability to establish and maintain relationships, ability to deal courteously and effectively with others, ability to maintain records and file, retrieve, code and index data and information, ability to communicate in writing clearly and concisely; read, review, write, and understand information such as forms, documents, instructions, and/or reports in English; ability to understand, give, and follow oral instructions in English.

If you also apply and meet the minimum qualifications for 3616 Library Technical Assistant I (C00180), you will only be scheduled once for the examination.

Qualified applicants will be notified by email of the exact time, date, and location of the examination.

Basic Supervisory Exam (Weight: 20%): Candidates will be administered a written multiple-choice examination that is designed to measure basic knowledge of various supervisory practices and procedures (e.g. directing, counseling, guiding, evaluating, motivating, disciplining, developing and training subordinates, delegation, etc.) as well as customer service and reading comprehension.

The scores that you achieve on the exams shall be valid and "banked" for three years, starting from the date of the examination. This means that, during this three-year time period, you will not be required to take these tests again should you apply and be found eligible for a future announcement for which this particular test is used. If the test for this future announcement is held within 12 months of the date of this examination, your score will be automatically applied to that announcement. However, after twelve months, you have the option to either (a) apply your test score to the other announcement or (b) re-take the test. Re-testing is permitted no sooner than twelve months from the date of the examination and only in association with your eligibility for another announcement for which this test is used. Please note that, should you re-test, your re-test score would become your official score going forward since it is the most recent. A passing score must be achieved on both exams in order to be placed/ranked on the eligible list/score report. The hiring department may administer additional position-specific selection procedures to make final hiring decisions.

The multiple-choice exams will be administered either on a computer or in a paper format. The type of format will depend on the size of the qualified applicant pool. Qualified candidates will be notified of the type of exam format in their exam appointment notification. These are standardized multiple-choice examinations. In accordance with Civil Service Rule 111.11.4, inspection privileges do not apply to the questions and answers in these examinations.

If a significant modification is made to an exam in the future, the application of “banked” scores may no longer be appropriate. In such a rare circumstance, candidates with “banked” scores would be required to re-take the exam sooner than the three year period specified above.

Candidates must receive a passing score on all examination components in order to be placed on the resulting eligible list.

Candidate scores on these examinations may also be applied to other announcements involving other job titles, when directed by the Human Resources Director.

The hiring department may administer additional position-specific selection procedures to make final hiring decisions.
