Role description
We are looking for Graphic Artist/Designer to join our creative team. The Graphic Artist will perform specialized manual and/or desktop-published illustrating and artwork in connection with the preparation of presentations, drawings, publications, public information and outreach materials, and similar media. The Graphic Artist will need to be able to project manage and complete the graphics requests as assigned, working closely with the Senior Graphic Designer and/or the Creative and Digital Strategy team.
The Graphic Artist will work with internal clients to help create engaging designs according to their objectives and requirements. Candidate must have an understanding of the creative, print, and digital processes. In this role, they will be a part of the Creative and Digital Strategy team in the Communications Division, where they will create impactful print and digital designs that capture and promote the SFPUC's agency’s mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives.
Project Name: Affordability and Milestone Projects
Essential Functions:
- Understand project requirements and concepts.
- Knowledge of the printing process and being able to communicate and provide print vendors with paper selection, proofing, color correction/management, and image quality at press checks.
- Use various techniques to create drafts, models, and prototypes.
- Participate in various design projects from concept to completion within deadlines and target milestone dates, including discovery and planning, design and review, production, and closeout.
- Pitch creative ideas and solutions.
- Communicate and collaborate with team members, departmental staff, vendors, staff from printers, service bureaus, and color houses to assure quality reproduction of project designs.
- Prepare sketches, graphs, charts, posters, diagrams, final drawings, exhibits, and photographs either from direct consultation with staff members or from rough sketches.
- Produce final design solutions (e.g. icons, banners, interfaces, infographics) for various applications (print, digital).
- Use feedback from other designers and clients to improve.
- Suggest ideas for copy or taglines for projects.
- Create graphics, resize images, create and execute newsletters and email blasts, flyers, posters, presentations, and print newsletters.
- Develop and create graphics, tracking URLs, and QR codes for SFPUC digital communication channels including website, online mailing lists, online ads, and social media.
How to qualify
Education: Possession of an Associate in Arts degree (two-year degree) from an accredited college or university with coursework in graphic art or design.
Experience:
General Specialty: Once (1) year of professional in-house or agency experience in graphic design/art or web design.
