The Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development’s Digital Equity initiative is dedicated to ensuring that all residents can actively engage in the digital world. We focus on assisting low-income residents, seniors, non-native English speakers, and the disability community to access the Internet and technology and enhance their digital skills. Under the guidance of the Digital Equity Manager, the Digital Equity Specialist supports various tasks related to MOHCD’s Digital Equity Program, with a particular emphasis on the Fiber to Housing (FTH) program. This program aims to boost digital equity and connectivity for residents in the City’s affordable housing with high-speed fiber. The 9770 Digital Equity Specialist will aid in the rollout of the FTH program, support in monitoring Community Development Programs, assist in data collection and reporting, and maintain regular communication with community development funded agencies and projects.

Role description
- Assist in the tech service connector component of the Fiber to Housing (FTH) program, ensuring a focus on racial equity in services.
- Support the coordination of FTH program services for residents connected by high-speed fiber, including aiding in router distribution, onboarding, and tech support.
- Help identify and report Internet infrastructure issues at specific sites.
- Facilitate communication with main FTH partners, such as the Department of Technology, ISP provider(s), and onsite staff – to ensure smooth operations.
- Support efforts to raise public awareness of SFDE and FTH programs in collaboration with the MOHCD communications team and the Department of Technology.
- Assist in the utilization of the Digital Equity Playbook resources for resident referrals, focusing on digital literacy training and online safety.
- Engage with FTH residents to understand their digital literacy training needs and provide appropriate referrals.
- Support tasks related to new FTH site and portfolio management.
How to qualify
1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university AND one (1) year of administrative/professional experience in community development , housing and/or housing development, workforce development, finance, education, social work, children/youth work, criminal justice, or elections related work; OR
2. Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the following fields: public or business administration, urban planning, government, social work, education, finance or criminal justice.
SUBSTITUTION:
Verifiable administrative/professional experience involving community development, housing and/or housing development, workforce development, finance, education, social work, children/youth work, criminal justice, and/or elections related work may substitute for the educational requirement in Minimum Qualification #1 on a year-for-year basis.
