Public Works currently has a vacancy for the position of Project Manager II (5504).

The Building Design and Construction Division
The Building Design and Construction Division of San Francisco Public Works, led by the City Architect, provides architectural and landscape design services, comprehensive building planning, project and construction management, contract support and compliance monitoring, materials testing and hazardous materials investigation for the development of new – and the upgrading of existing ­– civic buildings, facilities and urban landscapes to create a more resilient city.

Role description

In this role, you will be responsible for the management of several Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG) hospital projects under the Public Health and Safety (PHS) Bond Program. These projects will include the relocation of the Public Health Dialysis and Lab departments along with the IT Infrastructure project.   

Important and Essential Duties:
As a Project Manager II, your duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Facilitate and coordinate Contractor collaboration with Stakeholders.
  • Monitor project budget, funding, schedule, design, planning activities, and review change orders.
  • Execute solicitations for professional services and construction contracts.
  • Coordinate with the Contract Administration for bidding, award, and contracting.
  • Administer Project Management Support Services (PMSS) contract.
  • Select project delivery methods and manage the design phase including participation in design coordination meetings.
  • Facilitate the regulatory approval processes and issue resolution in support of the project objectives.
  • Prepare and present project status update presentations at various meetings.
  • Elevate lingering project issues to the Program Manager and assist in finding solutions.
  • Participate in assembling design teams.
  • Coordinate the work of a multi-disciplinary technical staff across organizational boundaries.
  • Working extensively with the public, private contractors, special interest groups, governmental funding, and regulatory agencies, and City & County of San Francisco (CCSF) departments. 

How to qualify

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education, training, and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain this would be:

Bachelor's Degree in architecture, engineering, or planning plus six (6) years of responsible architectural, engineering or construction management experience,

OR

Bachelor's Degree in another field plus eight (8) years of responsible experience in a field directly related to the project,

OR

Ten (10) years of architectural, engineering, or construction management experience in a field directly related to the project,

OR

California registration as a professional engineer or architect plus two years of project coordination experience.

Notes:

  • One-year full-time employment is considered equivalent to 2000 hours (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40 hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

Desirable QualificationsThe stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify candidates advancing to the interview process and/or to identify job finalist(s) at the end of the selection process when referred for hiring.

  • Experience in managing construction healthcare projects, including HCAI/OSHPD.
  • Knowledge of California Building Standards Codes.
  • Experience with the CM/GC (CM at Risk) Project Delivery Method.

The selection process will include an evaluation of applications in relation to minimum requirements. Depending on the number of applicants, the Department may establish and implement additional screening mechanisms to comparatively evaluate the qualifications of candidates. If this becomes necessary, only those applicants whose qualifications most closely meet the needs of the Department will move forward in the recruitment process.

Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ):
Candidates will be required to complete an MQSQ as part of the employment application. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) for this position. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through all of the steps in the selection procedure.
