The Department of Elections (Department) conducts all federal, state and local elections in the City and County of San Francisco, currently serving approximately 510,000 registered voters. Role description
Position Description:
In preparation for the November 5, 2024 General Election, the Department is seeking applications for seasonal positions of 1402 Junior Clerks to assist with various tasks occurring at the Department’s Pier 31 warehouse facility. These tasks include assisting with inventory control, preparation and distribution of election supplies, materials, and voting equipment used at in-person voting locations.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to follow directions, relating both to work and to worksite rules; stay focused while working accurately and consistently; and have diligent attention to safety and detail. The position requires continuous use of hands and arms; standing on concrete warehouse flooring, with occasional walking and sitting; unloading and carrying election materials, containers, voting equipment and other miscellaneous items; pushing and pulling dollies with loaded bags and containers that can weigh up to 150 lbs; frequent bending when handling large items or containers.

- Sorting, staging, and transporting equipment and supplies
- Moving materials from receiving area to the designated storage areas
- Placing materials and supplies into processing containers according to predetermined sequences
- Labeling and organizing supplies
- Coordinating counting of physical inventory of supplies
- Working in designated field sites outside the Warehouse which could be an open area for a limited time period.
- Performing other similar duties, as assigned.
Position Schedule, Requirements, and Work Location
This is a seasonal position, with the start date contingent upon completion of the hiring process. The Department intends to fill this position by September 30, 2024. The end date for this position is approximately second week of November; the exact end date will be determined by the operational needs of the Department.
Work hours will vary in accordance with the demands of the election cycle and will range between 20 and 60 hours per week. Although most work is expected to be completed during normal workday hours, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, hours may be adjusted due to the operational needs. Employees must be available to work overtime both during the week and on weekends as necessary. Overtime hours will be paid at 1.5 the hourly rate.
This is a temporary exempt as-needed position. Temporary exempt as-needed employees who have worked more than 1040 hours in any consecutive 12-month period, and whose normal work week at the time of inclusion in the system is not less than 20 hours are eligible for health coverage and retirement benefits. Work is generally performed in the warehouse with limited temperature controls, but there will be times that work is done offsite. Workers may be exposed to hot/cold temperatures, loud noises, dust, fumes, and/or odors.
Position Salary: $27.575 to $33.5 hourly
$57, 356 to $69, 680 annually

Experience:
Six (6) months of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents, filing, use of office equipment, public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail: OR
Substitution:
Any one of the following may substitute for the required experience:
- Completion of 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university; OR
- Completion of a clerical training program (240 hours); OR
- Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative training program.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to follow instructions, and work on multiple simultaneous projects
- Flexibility, tolerance, and stamina for tedious tasks and occasional long hours
