Role description

In preparation for the June 7, 2022, Consolidated Statewide Direct Primary Election, the Department is seeking applications for seasonal positions of warehouse worker to assist with various tasks occurring at the Department’s Pier 31 warehouse facility. These tasks include preparation, staging, and distribution of election supplies, materials, and voting equipment used at in-person voting locations. This position involves working primarily at the Department’s warehouse located at Pier 31.

Position Schedule and Hours:

This is a seasonal position, with the start date contingent upon completion of the hiring process. The Department intends to fill this position by April 25, 2022. The end date for this position is approximately July 1, 2022; the exact end date will be determined by the operational needs of the Department.

Work hours will vary in accordance with the demands of the election cycle and will range between 40 and 60 hours per week. Although most work is expected to be completed during normal workday hours, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, employees must be available to work overtime both during the week and on weekends as necessary. Overtime hours will be paid at 1.5 the hourly rate.

This is a temporary exempt as-needed position. Temporary exempt as-needed employees who have worked more than 1040 hours in any consecutive 12 month period, and whose normal work week at the time of inclusion in the system is not less than 20 hours are eligible for health coverage and retirement benefits. Position Salary: $24.625/hour

Position Description:

The ideal candidate will have the ability to follow directions, relating both to work and to worksite rules; stay focused while working accurately and consistently; and have diligent attention to safety and detail. Work is performed in the warehouse with limited temperature controls. Workers may be exposed to hot/cold temperatures, loud noises, dust, fumes, and/or odors. 

The position requires continuous use of hands and arms; standing on concrete warehouse flooring, with occasional walking and sitting; unloading and carrying election materials, containers, voting equipment and other miscellaneous items weighing up to 50 pounds; pushing and pulling dollies with loaded bags and containers that can weigh up to 150 pounds; frequent bending when handling large items or containers.

Typical tasks include:

1.       Sorting, staging, and transporting equipment and supplies

2.       Moving materials from receiving area to the designated storage areas

3.       Loading and unloading vehicles

4.       Cleaning of polling place supplies like voting equipment, voting booths, tables, chairs, signage, etc.

5.       Placing materials and supplies into processing containers according to predetermined sequences

6.       Assisting in the assembly of supplies and materials

7.       Assisting in the counting of physical inventory

8.       Operating warehouse equipment such as hand-trucks, pallet jacks, and/or mobile carts

9.       Operating city vehicles and/or 16 ft long delivery trucks

10.    Driving to and from predetermined locations as required to move or deliver voting equipment and materials

11.    Performing other similar duties, as may be required

How to qualify

Minimum Qualifications

These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. 

1.    Six (6) months of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of  records and/or documents, filing, use of office equipment, public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail: OR

2.    Completion of 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university; OR

3.     Completion of a clerical training program (240 hours); OR

4.      Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative training program.

In addition to the above minimum qualifications, applicants must have a valid California Driver's license and a clean DMV record.

·       Able to follow instructions, and work on multiple simultaneous projects

·       Willing to work in the field

·       Flexibility, tolerance, and stamina for tedious tasks and occasional long hours

·       Excellent punctuality

·       Able to lift loads weighing up to 50 lbs

·       Positive work attitude

·       Forklift certification or the ability to become certified forklift operator
