Role description

Project: Renewal and Replacement (R&R) Program Collection System

The Project Manager II (PM-II) is responsible for managing over $340 million of Renewal and Replacement (R&R) Program Collection System sewer projects for the Wastewater Enterprise Collection System.

The R&R Program Collection System projects involve the renewal and replacement of structurally inadequate sewers as determined and identified by the Wastewater Enterprise’s Collection System Division.  The City’s wastewater collection system assets include local sewers, large size sewers, brick sewers and transport structures.  This on-going annually funded Program to address these structurally inadequate sewers to avoid failures and disruption of service.

The R&R Project Manager will be responsible to implement a collection of concurrent R&R collection system improvement projects.  Duties include overseeing the preparation/review/completion of the design documents, the coordination with SFPUC Wastewater and Infrastructure staff and other City Departments, the advertisement/bidding process, the SFPUC/respective City Department’s award/NTP of the contracts, the construction completion of the sewer improvements, and project and financial closeout

Essential Functions:

1.      Project Management: Manage project budget, schedule, and scope.

2.      Environmental Review:  Coordinate preparation of required environmental studies with SFPUC Bureau of Environmental Management (BEM) staff.  The project manager provides project info to BEM for preparation of the CEQA Environmental review and approval.  Typically R&R small diameter sewer projects receive either a Statutory Exemption or Categorical Exemption.

3.      Engineering Design: Develop 100% construction documents (plans and specifications) for the project.

4.      Bid and Contracting Support: Provide support to SFPUC Contracts for bidding, the SFPUC award process, and contracting.

5.      Construction Management Support:  Provide construction management support to facilitate project construction. 

The Project Manager II will perform other related duties as assigned.

How to qualify

1. Bachelor's Degree in architecture, engineering, planning, or landscape architecture; plus four (4) years of responsible architectural, engineering or construction management experience, OR

2. A Bachelor's Degree in another field plus six (6) years of responsible experience in a field directly related to the project, OR

3. Eight (8) years of architectural, engineering, or construction management experience in a field directly related to the project, OR

4. California registration as professional engineer or architect and two (2) years of project coordination experience.
