Role description
Under direct supervision, the 1204 Senior Personnel Clerk performs specialized clerical duties in connection with personnel related matters.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Processes personnel transactions by gathering information for new hires, certifications, separations, reassignments, referrals, leaves of absence, and ensures that all personnel actions are initiated, and that correct records are posted and maintained.
- Processes personnel requisitions and modifications by filling out forms and/or entering information into the system either manually and/or electronically; locates budget information for requisitions and position control.
- Compiles and analyzes data for report, issues and tracks notifications to candidates for response, and verifies and corrects information to ensure accuracy of reports.
- Creates and updates personnel files, manually and/or electronically, to ensure that accurate information is kept on employee file.
- Responds to telephone and personnel inquiries for various personnel matters.
- Trains clerical staff to properly complete personnel related forms in order to ensure that correct procedures, rules, policies and regulations are utilized.
- May train and supervise clerical staff to ensure that established personnel related procedures are followed.
- Processes and schedules appointments for various personnel matters.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
How to qualify
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Required):
- Current Category 16, 17, or 18 Exempt Employee in Class 1204 Senior Personnel Clerk who has worked at least 2,080 hours in class 1204; AND
- Two (2) years (equivalent to 4,000 hours) of verifiable experience maintaining personnel records and generating reports equivalent to the duties of City and County of San Francisco Class 1202 Personnel Clerk. Note: Personnel records are records relating to employees that are maintained within an HR environment.

One-year fulltime employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week).

Qualified applicants will be ranked on the eligible list based on the length of their exempt City service (in Category 16, 17, and/or 18) in the 1204 Senior Personnel Clerk class, along with any additional qualifying points (e.g., promotive status), as outlined in Civil Service Commission (CSC) rules. All work history will be verified using official City records, which will serve as the final authority in determining qualifying service.
Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.
Certification
The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be the Rule of the List Scores.

The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be 6 months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
