This is a Class-Based Test administered in accordance with Civil Service Rule 111.
The San Francisco Department of Public Health is accepting applications in Class 2424 Diagnostic Imaging Assistant. Positions may be located at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital & Trauma Center, Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, and the Department of Public Health neighborhood health centers and clinics.

Role description
Under immediate supervision, a Diagnostic Imaging Assistant at the Department of Public Health performs a number of duties including assisting with diagnostic imaging procedures and image processing; assisting in transporting, and handling patients; assisting physician or diagnostic imaging technologists during examinations; keeping related files and records; and performs related duties as required.
The 2424 Diagnostic Imaging Assistant performs the following essential job functions:
- Assists with diagnostic imaging procedures and image processing using digital equipment
- Arranges for and transports patients designated for radiographic exams; picking up transport slips; notifying charge tech or receptionist of the patient’s arrival or departure; monitoring patients and educating them about procedures to be performed
- Attaches and removes equipment parts related to imaging
- Assists in placing patients on table and helps in positioning patients
- Assists department staff in performing various Diagnostic Imaging procedures
- Cleans equipment and facilities e.g. preparing room for the next patient
- Uses a variety of information systems to schedule appointments and register patients for various imaging modalities such as general radiography, sonograms, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, fluoroscopy, mammography, interventional radiography procedures, etc
- Uses Picture Archiving Communication (PACS) to manage digital images including transferring information to and from electronic media and prints computerized documents as directed
- Records information about the procedure event in various computerized systems and logs
- Assists with processing accountants payable, reconciliation and other office management duties,
- Orients students and new staff to safe lifting, body ergonomics and transport techniques
- Answers phone using a multiline telephone to answer callers, respond to their inquiries and directs calls to appropriate areas or individuals
- Stocks units with linen, monitors stock levels and disposes of dirty laundry bags
- Picks-up and deliver supplies, laboratory tests, and equipment in and around the hospital
How to qualify
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: One (1) year of verifiable work experience involving public contact which includes six (6) months in a medical facility

These minimum qualifications are to be used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.
Condition of Employment - Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate Requirement
Possession of a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association is required as a provision to employment for all positions. Candidates who do not possess such a certification may participate in this process and be appointed to a position(s), but will be required to obtain the certificate within two (2) weeks of hire date and maintain validity throughout length of employment. A photocopy of the valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate must be provided to the appropriate supervisor of the appointment within the allotted time frame. Failure to demonstrate/show proof of possession of valid certification within two (2) weeks of hire date and throughout length of employment may result in dismissal and/or termination of employment.
Special Condition - Bilingual Proficiency: Some positions may require bilingual fluency in a variety of languages depending upon the department's bilingual needs. Only those eligible candidates who pass the bilingual proficiency test will be considered for bilingual positions. Applicants must indicate on the application for m the language(s) in which they claim proficiency.

Selection Procedures
Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (Weight: Qualifying): Applicants will be required to complete a Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire that will be emailed. Applicants will be required to respond to the MQSQ in the time frame indicated, and submit their answers as directed. The selection procedure will include evaluation of the application packet in relation to minimum requirements. Depending on the number of applicants, the Department may establish and implement additional screening mechanisms to comparatively evaluate qualifications of candidates.
Written Examination (Weight: 100%): Candidates who appear to meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in a written multiple-choice examination designed to measure their relative knowledge, skills and abilities in job-related areas.The multiple-choice examination component may include, but is not be limited to: Knowledge of processing of radiologic images; Ability to follow instructions/directions; Ability to keep simple records ; Ability to maintain equipment and worksite-; Interpersonal Skills; Ability to maintain inventory and order supplies; Ability to operate computer systems and programs; Oral communication ability; Physical Ability
This is a standardized multiple-choice examination. Inspection privileges do not apply to the questions and answers in this examination. The examination will only be offered in person in San Francisco. Qualified applicants will be notified by email of the exact time, date, and location of the examination. Candidates must achieve a passing score on all selection procedures in order to be ranked on the eligible list. Candidate scores on this exam may also be applied to other announcements involving other job titles, when directed by the Human Resources Director.

Certification: The certification rule used for the eligible list resulting from this selection procedure will be Rule of Ten (10) Scores. Additional position-specific selection mechanisms may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.
Eligible List/Score Report: A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores, and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection, upon request once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this civil service examination process is subject to change after adoption (e.g., as a result of appeals), as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.
