DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, the Electrician Supervisor I assists in coordinating, delegating, directing and reviewing the installation, maintenance and repair of a variety of both high and low voltage industrial and institutional electrical systems and their components, including the maintenance of closed circuit television and Access Control systems. Positions at the Department of Parking and Traffic assist in the coordinating and directing of the overall installation, servicing and repair of a large and complicated City-wide traffic signal system.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES:
This is a first level supervisory class that has responsibility for interpreting and enforcing methods and procedures related to electrical installation, maintenance, and repair activities. This class is distinguished from the 7276 Electrician Supervisor II in that the latter is a second level supervisory position that performs more complex and difficult electrical and supervisory duties.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Incumbents in this job code supervise and instruct subordinate personnel including the 7345 Electrician classification which is responsible for performing skilled electrical work.
EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
According to Civil Service Commission Rule 109, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job code and are not intended to be an inclusive list.
1. Supervises subordinate personnel by coordinating, delegating, directing and reviewing work
assignments; instructing crew in routine and emergency repair of a variety of electrical
systems and their components. This includes the maintenance of closed circuit television
system (CCTV) used for security and the maintenance of an Access Control System.
2. Estimates costs, time and materials required to install and/or repair a variety of industrial and institutional electrical systems.
3. Schedules the maintenance and installation activities of subordinates.
4. Attends and holds meetings interdepartmentally as well as with personnel from other City departments. This includes design review and safety meetings.
5. Writes and maintains a variety of records and reports such as daily, weekly and monthly assignments, injury and accident reports and inventory material reports.
6. Makes regular contacts with City departments as well as members of the public to resolve electrical problems.
7. Purchases material required for inventory and the installation and repair of electrical systems.
8. Plans and directs the overall servicing and installation of the City's traffic signal and Airport traffic signal systems.
9. Oversees the installation and maintenance of fiber optic cabling used in all systems.
10. Maintains and services life safety systems.
11. Performs other related duties as required.

JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of: Industrial and institutional electrical systems; and safety rules and regulations.
Ability to: Plan and direct the work of others and evaluate their performances objectively; work cooperatively with subordinate employees, stimulate and motivate, and delegate responsibility; work cooperatively with other departmental staff and customers; understand and interpret schematic drawings, blueprints and layout work; exchange spoken information in a clear, concise, organized and relevant manner; communicate clearly and effectively in writing with departmental personnel and the general public; read and comprehend written materials related to electrical and supervisory work; prepare written procedures, reports, and memos; and utilize applicable computer software.
Experience and Training Guidelines:
Completion of a recognized Electricians' apprenticeship program and two years verifiable experience installing, servicing and repairing both high and low voltage electrical systems of up to 600 volts, devices, and related components including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and typical solenoid motor controllers as a journey-level Electrician; OR
A combination of training and verifiable work experience installing, servicing and repairing both high and low voltage electrical systems of up to 600 volts, devices, and related components including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and typical solenoid motor controllers as a journey-level Electrician totaling six years; AND
Possession of a current valid driver license; AND
Possession of computer application skills necessary to perform the duties of an Electrician Supervisor I.

Disaster service work
All City and County of San Francisco employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
