JOB CODE TITLE: STREET REPAIR SUPERVISOR II JOB CODE: 7282

Business Unit: COMMN

Definition:

Under general direction, is a second-level supervisor responsible for construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and city structures (steps, guard rails, retaining walls, etc.) using asphalt, concrete, and other materials.

Distinguishing Features:

The Street Repair Supervisor II is distinguished from the 5135 Assistant Superintendent of Street and Sewer Repair by the latter's higher level of responsibility.

Supervision Exercised:

Incumbents in this class supervise (through first-level supervisors) unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled asphalt workers.

Examples of Important and Essential Duties:

According to Civil Service Commission Rule 109, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this class and are not intended to be an inclusive list.

1. Plans, assigns, monitors, and evaluates the work of a number of work crews engaged

in the construction, repair, and maintenance of asphalt and concrete street, sidewalks,

curbs, and city structures (steps, guard rails, retaining walls, etc.).

2. Inspects work in progress for conformance with plans and established standards and

procedures and for conformance with safe working conditions.

3. Supervises emergency repair work in cases where slides or washouts cause street

obstructions and assigns crews for such work.

4. Investigates and acts upon complaints and requests from the general public and other

city agencies for work to be performed.

5. Prepares requisitions for materials, tools, and equipment necessary for maintenance

and repair activities.

6. Prepares cost estimates for work requested by other city departments and agencies.

7. Prepares reports and records on employees' time, materials expended, periodic

reports, and performance evaluations.

8. Makes recommendations to superintendent for budget regarding equipment and

materials needed for assigned sector.

9. Assists in the development and advancement of subordinates through training and

effective use of employee development programs.

10. Drives to meetings and to work sites for inspections.

11. Performs related duties as required.

Job-related and Essential Qualifications:

Knowledge of: Pavement construction techniques and practices, including the various

mixtures of asphalt and concrete; pavement maintenance and repair; safety methods and procedures.

Ability to: Supervise by planning, assigning, directing, monitoring, and evaluating the work of subordinates; promote, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people; communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.

Experience and Training Guidelines:

1. Two years of experience as a supervisor (with a full range of supervisory duties) of a group of workers engaged in the construction, maintenance, and repair of asphalt and concrete streets, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, as well as city structures (steps, guard rails, retaining walls, etc.).

2. Possession of a valid driver license.

Standard information

Disaster service work

All City and County of San Francisco employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
