Calculate my curved or continuous score

Getting your numbers together

To self-calculate your curved or continuous score, your will need to have each of the numbers below for each exam component:

  • R - Raw score(s).
  • W - Component weight(s).
  • H - High score(s).
  • P - Pass point(s).
  • σ - Standard deviations(s).
  • μ - Mean score(s).

Self-calculation

To calculate your final score, follow these steps using the information included in your score email.

1 - Convert each raw score into a standard score (S):

For each exam component:

S = (R-μ)/σ

2 - Find each "T-Score"(T)

For each exam component:

T = (S x 10) + 50

3 - Calculate the standard score and "T-Score" for each pass point

Using the same process from steps one and two, calculate the standard score (SP) and T-Score (TP) for each pass point.

SP = (P-μ)/σ

TP = (SP x 10) + 50

4 - Find each weighted score

For each exam component, find the weighted score (Q)

Q = (T-TP) x W

5 - Calculate your composite score

We will now combine all of your weighted scores into a composite score (C)

C = Σ[Q] -or- C = Q1 + Q2 + Q3

6 - Max composite score

Complete step 1 through step 5 for each high score (H). This is MC.

7 - Curved score

Calculate your curved score. This may be your final score if you do not have any score modifiers, such as veteran's points listed.

FC = ((C/MC) x 300) + 700

Your score should be between 700 and 1000 points.

8 - Final list score

To calculate your final list score (FL), add (or subtract) the score modifiers listed in your score email. If you do not have any score modifiers your final score is the score from step 7.

Important notes

Rounding - Your score has been processed by a high speed and high efficiency computing system. Due to decimals when conducting division operations, your self-calculated final score may vary by a point or two from the official score generated by the computer. This is normal, due to rounding and number casting operations that are applied the same to all candidates. This difference will never impact your rank on an eligible list.

For continuous (One-application) recruitments

To ensure fairness, as people take the assessment at different times, we group scores into bands. A band will take your final list score from step 8 above and will slot it into a pre-defined range. All scores in that range will have the same score on the list and the same rank.
